Privacy Policy

foodilike helps you find food you'll enjoy and order it with less stress. We try to collect as little as possible, and we'll always be straight with you about it. Here's the whole picture — in plain language.
The short version
- You can use foodilike without an account — we identify your device with a random ID, not your name.
- We store your taste preferences and the meals you rate, so the app gets better at suggesting food for you.
- When you scan a menu, we send the image to our AI provider to read it, then store the menu (dish names, prices, our texture tags) — we don't keep your photo.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Device identifier — a random ID created on your device so we can save your profile without making you sign in.
- Taste profile — your texture, spice, and richness preferences, cuisines, proteins, cooking styles, and any ingredients you mark as a "no," from the questions you answer and the meals you rate.
- Your meals — dishes you tap "I'll get this" on, and your ratings (loved / fine / nope).
- Menus you scan — the photo or PDF is sent to our AI provider to extract the dish list; we store the resulting menu data (keyed to the restaurant), not the image.
- Account info (only if you sign in) — your email address, handled through Firebase Authentication.
- Usage — basic counts such as how many menus you've scanned (for plan limits), plus standard server logs.
- Waitlist — if you give us your email on our website, we keep it to let you know when things are ready.
What we don't collect
We don't ask for your real name, we don't track your location in the background, and we don't keep your scanned menu photos after reading them.
How we use it
- To suggest dishes that match your palate, and improve those suggestions as you rate meals.
- To run the shared menu cache — one person's scan helps the next person at the same restaurant.
- To operate accounts, plan limits, and support.
- We do not use your data for advertising, and we don't sell it.
Who we share it with
We use a few trusted services to run foodilike. They process data on our behalf, and only what they need:
- Anthropic (Claude) — reads your scanned menu to extract the dishes.
- Google Cloud — hosts our servers and database.
- Firebase (Google) — handles sign-in, if you create an account.
- Google Places — restaurant search (receives the restaurant text you search for).
- Apple / Google — app distribution and, if you subscribe, payment processing (they are the seller of record and handle applicable taxes).
- Google Analytics — measures website traffic (which pages people visit) in aggregate, on our website only. It isn't used inside the app and isn't tied to your account.
We don't sell personal information to anyone.
Aggregate, anonymized data
We may use combined, de-identified data — for example, trends in what dishes appear on menus or which textures people enjoy — to improve foodilike and understand food trends. This kind of data can't be used to identify you.
Your choices
- Use anonymously — you don't need an account to use foodilike.
- Edit or remove preferences — update your taste profile or remove a "hard no" in the app anytime.
- Access or delete your data — email us and we'll help you access or delete your information.
A note on food and health
foodilike helps with the stress of choosing food — it isn't medical advice, doesn't replace care, and doesn't track allergies (always tell your server about allergies). If food is causing real distress, please talk to a doctor or therapist.
Children
foodilike isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We use reputable cloud providers and standard protections, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we handle your information with care.
Changes
If we update this policy, we'll change the date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app or by email.
